BC Canada Pavilion in Beijing
Dashan has been appointed Goodwill Ambassador for the BC Canada Pavilion in Beijing.
Situated near Tiananmen Square in Beijing, the 21,000 square-foot Pavilion will welcome visitors from May 1 through September 18, 2008, providing the thousands of people who will be in Beijing for the 2008 Olympic Games a chance to learn more about British Columbia and Canada.
Dashan's role will be to help promote this unique venue, starting with performing the role of MC for the grand opening event on May 22. Dashan will also be attending various media events at the Pavilion over the summer months.
In late August, Dashan will host a dinner for guests chosen from a weekly draw that all Pavilion visitors can enter. Each week’s winner and their choice of guest will be invited to a private Pavilion tour and dinner with Dashan, featuring the best of B.C. food, wine and beer.
"BC Canada Place was a major success at the 2006 Torino Games, with more than 100,000 visitors lining up to learn about our province and our country," according to BC Premier Gordon Campbell. "The BC Canada Pavilion in Beijing will build on that profile and success during the 2008 Games."
Visitors are greeted at the entrance to the Pavilion with a dramatic view of 13 stunning wooden arcs, representing Canada’s 10 provinces and three territories. Inside, visitors will be welcomed to the first floor's interactive audio-visual experience designed to entertain and delight. The goal is to create an experience so life-like, people actually feel like they have been to B.C. Visitors will get a glimpse of Canada's diverse culture, wealth of business opportunities, unique geographical location and wide array of tourism experience, through a presentation that is arranged according to the five elements of traditional Chinese philosophy: metal, wood, water, fire and earth.
To meet the goal of business development, the entire second floor of the pavilion has been designed as a flexible business and meeting centre that can be adapted to accommodate small private meetings or large receptions, seminars, workshops and presentations.
The project is managed by the BC Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Secretariat. For more information, visit www.bccanadapavilion.ca.
